Rich Marine Life: Encounter sea lions, sharks, manta rays, schools of jacks, and even whale sharks (in season). All year round the marine life we find in amazing and evern in the Local Marin Park that in very close to the harbord where we have to many boats and some days Cruiships. When the water gets a little colder is when we get into big schools of fish and we can capture some amazing pictures. I have seen jus a few places in different countries where we see that amout of fish. When the water gets warmer we might not find all this fish but still I consider even more fish that tropical areas.
Diverse Dive Sites: From shallow reefs to deepwater pinnacles like Gordo Banks, there’s something for everyone. We have the chance to start in sandy areas for begginers divers really shallow in the Cabo Local Marine park and it´s like a pool whith a buoy area and easy to start from while then we have the chance to swim from there to a dipper area with a beautifull Drop. So It has dive sites for all kind of divers, begginers and experienced. It´s mainly a rock formation ares not to many reef like tropical areas but if you what you like to see is marine life this can be your place.
Year-Round Diving: Thanks to mild water temperatures, you can dive in Cabo throughout the year. Every year the water temperatures not only change but the different current switch more or less according to the niño and niña phenomen. Some years water can be warmer or colder than some other years. Still during summer it gets as warm as having the chance to not use any wetsuit and it can get as cold in the winter for usind a 7 mm wetsuit.
Proximity to Marine Parks: The Cabo San Lucas Marine Park is home to some of the best underwater experiences in the region. We have the chance to go diving 10 mintures from the Marina in Cabo San Lucas to almost two hours when we go to Gordo Bank looking for scuba into the blue looking for schook of hammerheads and some other sharks or even during the humpback whale season being surprised by whales but that´s something we should be expecting to happen.
Best Time to Scuba Dive in Cabo: Why Spring (March-June) is a Great Choice
Springtime in Cabo, from March to June, is one of the best times to visit for scuba diving. The water conditions are ideal, with improving visibility, comfortable water temperatures, and an abundance of marine life.

Perfect Water Conditions: Visibility increases, and the ocean remains calm with minimal swells. When winter finishes we are ready to enjoy the warmer sea water and air also warmer and still having a lot of marine life as the water is not really warm like the caribbean when marine life hide as well looking for cooler environment.
Marine Life Encounters: This period marks the transition between seasons, bringing unique marine migrations, including mobula rays, sharks, and schooling fish. Still the magic of mobula rays I could find it my prefedered encounter for scuba diving but also for snorkeling on an ocean safari.
Mild Weather: The temperatures are pleasant, making it comfortable both in and out of the water. As the air is allready warmer it doesn´t get cold during the surfade interval waiting for the second dive. Also it´s still whale watching season and we never know what we can hear under water as humpback whales sing sometimes we can hear them while scuba or if you prefer to go whale watching the hydrophone we use to hear this kind of whales gives you a dry option for comming to Cabo San Lucas
However, Cabo San Lucas is an amazing diving destination all year round! No matter when you visit, you’ll find exciting underwater experiences. Summer and fall bring the warmest waters, while winter is great for spotting migrating humpback whales on the surface during your boat rides. Still keep in mind that some years as 2025 with the niña phenomen the water got colder and we spott many grey whales as they need to come down and migrate more milles to stay warmer to give birth and mate.
Top Scuba Diving Sites in Cabo San Lucas
Cabo San Lucas Marine Park
This protected area is home to some of the most famous dive sites in Cabo. Expect vibrant marine life and fascinating rock formations.
Pelican Rock: Ideal for beginners and advanced divers, featuring schools of fish, pufferfish, and occasional sea lions. For begginers we can start scuba diving as shallow as 4 feet or less than 2 meters for a slow dive introduction when you are on a discor scuba diving program or on an Open Water PADI course but for certified divers starting at 20 feet or 7 meters really fast we swimm to a deeper area with deep drops if you feel confortable finding also big school of fish like red snapperds, goat fish and some others that create a cloud of marine life. We have a buoyed area in this dive site that creates a protected area from boats for warming up on a first dive just to start but later we swim away of this area looking for more marine life.
Neptune’s Finger: A great spot for spotting rays and eels hiding in crevices. Many times we choose this sedond dive site as is a smooth and small area to wait floating in the blue for sighting schools of mobula rays -devil rays- or schools of cow nose rays depending the time of the year there could be more chances as well as the giant schools of red snappers.
The Sand Falls: One of the most unique dive sites in the world, where cascading sand mimics an underwater waterfall. Sometimes of the year mainly outum and summer could be working this sandfalls as it needs south swell for being active. Still is part of the Pelican Rock extension the same as the North Wall. In one dive depending we can scuba dive the area from the north wall and finishing at the shallow area of the Pelican Rock and we discover the magic area all in once going above rock formations, sand falls, the deep drop until the sandy shallow area for the safety stop at the Pelican area.
- Lands End: We called like that for being the last tip of the Baja Peninsula. This dive site is a sandy area that goes as deep as 80 feet or 24 meters but we can start al 30 feet or 10 meters and it´s a big area for scuba diving. This dive site sometimes has strong current and it´s hard to dive in but the marine life with schook of fish, school of rays can make it a hotspot, the same as an old shipwrek that every year depending on the storms we either find more or less parts of it as sun covers it of the currents remove sand to do it better to sight it. We go around a big rock formation around the Arch where during the summer and beggining of winter we might have more chances to find the sealions under water. We head to a shallow area at 15 feet or 5 meters and have a look if they are This sealion area is part of a resting spot for them. They tend to move to a breeding sealion colony part of the year in Espiritu Santo, La Paz where we recommned for sighting the babies sea lions.
The Corridor
Between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, this area offers fantastic diving with less boat traffic and a variety of reefs. Most of the time we are scuba diving alon with no other divers wich makes it perfect as we also don´t hear any boats pollutions. The other great thing during the winter and whale watching season is being able to hear them singing.
Chileno Bay: A great spot for beginners with calm waters and diverse fish species. We can start really shallow inside the bay with rock formations where sometimes we spot reef white tip sharks if we are lucky as it´s a perfect place for them to hide and rest as they don´t need to be swimming for breathing as the rest of the sharks. It´s a big area for scuba diving and as farther we swim out the deeper it gets but always having a buttom.
Santa Maria Bay: Offers stunning coral formations and plenty of reef fish. It´s another choice for scuba diving if you go for many days. The marine life in the Corridor area is all very similar and it´s close the public beach area in Santa Maria
Blowhole: Known for its interesting topography and encounters with larger pelagic species. This dive site can start shallow or deep depending where we want to go but it get deeper and deeper. We find really big underwater pinnacles, white tip reef sharks swiming and hiding at the buttom as the topography creates channels that we can swing into it and discover this sharks, rays and some sea turtles just resting. The humpback whale song is very popular there and we are always looking everywhere trying to find a whale but it´s really difficulat to spot them.
Gordo Banks
For advanced divers seeking an adrenaline rush, Gordo Banks is a deep dive site famous for its pelagic encounters. We go scuba here with a group of divers that has allready dove with us and we can check their advanced habilities. The dive site is 1.5 hours south east of Cabo San Lucas and a few milles from the shore. There are two areas we scuba here. On one of them we can see the butoom rock formations at 100 feet or 30 meters but the other dive area we don´t see the buttom as we are floting at 100 feet -30 meters- or even deeper wainting to spot the pelagic marine life.
As I used to work on areas like Revillagigedo, this Gordo Bank area take me somehow there as we can sight big marine life such as schook of sharks, manta rays and if we are really but really lucky humpback whales passing through.
Schooling Hammerhead Sharks: One of the main attractions for experienced divers. Scalloped hammerheads sizes around 4 to 6 feet – 2 meters average- are really shy. They don´t come that close like some other sharks that could be more curious with divers but I believe is one of the most extraordinary experience. Some people that are not scuba divers still feel scare about them but this is a way to understand that sharks are not dangerous and we shouldn´t be sacared about them.
Mantas: This open-ocean dive site is perfect for those who love big marine animals. The giant pacific manta rays when the summer heat the waters and visibility gets better bring a chance to float at Gordo Bank waiting to sight this big intelligent fish that loves the belly bubbles.
- Silky Sharks: This very curious shark like warmer water and it can be spot when the manta rays are also aroun. There can be from one to decens of them. I had the experinced of being with them snorkeling at Revillagigedo Islands during the night and scuba diving on daylight and ther are just curious animals. They really like flying fishes specially during the night and at that moment is when we can see the behaviour changing as that fish is like a disert for them.
Strong Currents: Requires good diving experience and proper certification. A check out dive in local marine park is recommended for many reasons. Knowing the propper amount of weight to go down easier and not having ear equalization issues can be a plus for reducing the chance to get lost. As we are diving in the blue and most of the times with currents far from the shore out boat following the bubbles is crucial the same as comming up all together with a bouy helping us to be sight.

- Humpback Whales: As their migrate from the north cold waters to Cabo looking for warmer waters to give birth and calve their youngs there is a very small chance to sight them while scuba diving. Even that we can´t dive with them, we can get really lucky underwater while diving. As we start seeing them lately in october. October to december when the water is still warm and clear, finding them underwater can be a plus, but we should keep it as a bonus and not as the main purpose of going to Gordo Banks.
